Great Pyramids of Giza in Cairo
And of course, the main attraction of Cairo is the Giza Pyramid complex, it consists of: the only existing of the seven wonders of the Ancient World – the Pyramid of Khufu (known as the “Great Pyramid” or the Pyramid of Cheops), its height is 140 meters, and its age is estimated at approximately at 4500 years, somewhat smaller – the Pyramids of Khafre and the relatively modest size – the Pyramids of Menkaure, as well as smaller satellite pyramids, such as the famous pyramids of queens and the pyramids of the valley.
Sphinx
The statue of the Great Sphinx in the city of Cairo, in the Giza region – is located east of the pyramid of Khafre, it is located toward the Nile and the rising Sun. The Sphinx was carved from a single block of the same material as the pyramids of Cheops and Khafre and is a reclining lion with a human head.
The length of the statue, from the front paw to the tail, is 57 meters, and the height is 20 meters. Based on the records found at the feet of the statue, historians suggest that the Sphinx was built on the orders of the pharaoh Khafre, and its facial features repeat those of the pharaoh himself. Currently, the statue is badly damaged, especially his face, dotted with potholes.
