Description

Nabq Protected Area – One of Egypt’s Best Kept National Park Secrets

The Nabq Protected Area or Nabq National Park is located roughly 35 kilometers to the north of Sharm El Sheikh, in the South Sinai Governorate. Sharm el Sheikh is by far and away southern Sinai’s best-known and most frequently visited resort town, followed by Naama Bay. Both of these places are incredibly popular Sinai tourist destinations.

However, very few of those tourists are aware of the fact that one of Egypt’s most spectacularly beautiful areas is just a short drive away.

Covering an area of around 600 square kilometers, the Nabq Protected Area is considered to be one of the most strikingly beautiful national parks in all of Egypt, and maybe even in the entire world. The unspoiled natural beauty of this area is simply incredible.

Nabq Protected Area is one of the lesser-known Sinai Tourists Attractions, but for how long, remains to be seen. It is home to a wide variety of plant and animal species, some of which are not found anywhere else on Earth, and the beauty doesn’t end there either.

If you enjoy being out in the Great Outdoors, and you are going to be visiting Sharm el Sheikh or Naama Bay during your trip to Egypt, then you really should make time for a visit to the Nabq Protected Area.

Not only will you be amazed by the area’s natural beauty, but you will also be helping to support some of the local Bedouin people who live in the area.

Many of these people continue to live the same as the Bedouin tribes have been living all through the ages. They still live off the land, relying on natural resources. However, these days they are also partially reliant on tourist dollars. For this reason, they have more or less been handed full control over all tourism in the area.

All services provided at the Nabq Protected Area are provided by the local Bedouin, including things like meals, camel rides, and etc. Some of the local Bedouin also try to supplement their earnings by making and selling souvenirs and beautiful handmade garments.

Vehicles are typically forbidden in the area, so the only way for visitors to explore is either on foot, or on the back of a camel. Any visit to the area – which is also teeming with birds – is guaranteed to be so much richer if you are in the presence of a local Bedouin guide.

The local bedouins are exceptionally knowledgeable regarding the area’s fauna and flora, and their friendliness and hospitality is nothing short of legendary.

Possibly the Best Diving Site in Egypt

Egypt’s entire Red Sea coastline is home to some of the world’s most spectacular dive sites. Saying that the Nabq National Park might possibly be the best diving site of them all is a rather bold statement to make, but it is true nonetheless.

While the water in this area is certainly not as clear as it is at some dive sites in the Red Sea

There is also an old shipwreck in the area which one can actually reach on foot. However, a suitable pair of shoes is highly recommended because most of the rocks are literally covered with shells and starfish.
